The founder's passion for celebrating local artisans stems from her family's humble roots in America, after whom she proudly named her eponymous label.
Anthony Benevenia (1903-1979), Cara's paternal great-grandfather, emigrated from a small village on the southern coast of Italy to industrial Newark, New Jersey, spending his days as a luxury men's tailor at the renowned American Shops on Broad Street. There, he would have his baseball signed by some of the most iconic Yankees Players who frequented the shop for custom suits.
Cara realized from a young age growing up in the traditional Italian-American household that her life's mission would stem from a deep desire to preserve her family's heritage through her art.
As a result, the Cara Benevenia collections are the quintessence of timeless luxury, designed and handcrafted locally with the intent to place honor upon the work of local artisans, most of whom have immigrated to the United States in search of what was once known as the American Dream.
