Interview with Oxalis Apothecary Founder, Erin Wexstten

Our skin has glowed rosy and bright since discovering Oxalis Apothecary, a 100% natural skincare line. All of the products are enriched with premium plant based oils, herbs and minerals, and ethically sourced ingredients. Your skin will thank you. Plus, the founder Erin is super lovely. Read on to learn more about this special brand and the woman behind it.

where is your hometown?

I grew up in Mt Vernon, IL, a small rural town in Southern Illinois.

what does your household look like?

I live with my longtime partner of 13 years (now fiancé) Yuri, our 22 month old son Remy, and 2 orange tabby brothers Willy and Gussy.

what year did your company launch?

2015

what originally sparked your idea for the company?

A love affair with skincare and a push from my heart to forge a new career path for myself. I’d been in the fashion industry for over a decade, and it taught me so much, but at the end of the day, I knew my passion was in the realm of natural beauty.

what do you love most about your company?

I love that it is inclusive, from the price point to the aesthetic, it’s really for everyone, and we pride ourselves on being truly authentic – from the ingredients, practices, culture and effectiveness of the products. It’s a huge labor of love, and I’m so proud of all that we’ve accomplished in 5+ years.

What is a current goal you are striving for?

We have lots of exciting goals for the next year, but we’re focusing on sharing the joy of Oxalis with many more of you and increasing our sustainability initiatives.

How do you keep up your mental health?

Stepping away when needed, deep breaths, kisses and cuddles from my family and many calls a week to my mother, who happens to be a fabulous therapist!

Looking back on your entrepreneurial journey, what do you wish you had done differently?

I could have benefited from a bit more counsel in the beginning. I didn’t have a big business plan when I put Oxalis out into the world, and there have been a few things I’ve had to work backwards to accomplish. It’s taught me a lot though, and that’s what this journey is all about, right?

if you could give some advice to your 21-year-old self, what would you say?

Probably the same thing I’m saying to my 36-year-old self: This too shall pass, girl. Also, never go to bed with a dirty face!
