Interview with Artist Marc Ellen Hamel

We discovered Marc Ellen's nature paintings and swooned with delight. If only we could buy every.single.one. Likewise, her monotypes and collage are so colorful and fun.

Below, we asked Marc Ellen to share a little about herself. 

where is your hometown?

Seattle, WA is my home town… I now live in Oakland, CA

what does your household look like?

My husband and myself. We recently lost our doggie of 12 years. We are sad.

what year did your company launch?

1984

what originally sparked your idea for the company?

When people wanted to buy my artwork, and I needed to get a resale license and chart my sales to pay taxes.

what do you love most about your company?

My “company” is my artwork. I could not live without making art. Creating paintings, monotypes, collage, and drawing keep me connected to my inner true self.

What is a current goal you are striving for?

I want to see my art going in more peoples’ homes to inspire them.

How do you keep up your mental health?

Yoga, walking, reading, listening to Bluegrass music, making art

Looking back on your entrepreneurial journey, what do you wish you had done differently?

I wish I had gone to graduate school for more and deeper guidance from good teachers.

if you could give some advice to your 21-year-old self, what would you say?

You are valuable; be proud of who you are.
