Haley Mathewes is incredibly talented and incredibly sweet. We can think of 100 places her artwork would look great in our homes, and we want to buy it all up! Here, we asked her to share a little more about herself and her journey as an artist.
Charleston, South Carolina
I am married and live happily with my wonderful husband Thomas and our daughter Gigi.
I have always drawn and painted but it wasn’t until my dear friend Janet Gregg really encouraged me to make it official in 2015.
I started selling paintings in my antiques booth as a way of selling antique frames more so than the artwork itself. Janet saw my pieces in the booth and from there, encouraged me to get serious and focus on the artwork itself!
I absolutely love what I do. It is a joy to create and I feel so grateful that people have my artwork as a part of their lives and homes.
I am honestly just trying to keep my head above water! I would say the constant goal for me is finding balance in life and work, and yet, continuing to ride the waves of momentum and growth.
Exercise. I have to get outside and walk or run at least four days a week to get fresh air and expend energy. I also like to mix it up with yoga and Pilates. I truly feel that moving your body is one of the most important and rewarding ways to take care of physical and mental health.
I’m not sure what I would do differently because I feel like I’ve learned so much along the way – mistakes and mishaps included!
I would tell myself to relax and enjoy precious youth without carrying the false burden of worrying about what the future may or may not bring.
Anything by David Sedaris for humor and The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers for a more serious read.
Peaky Blinders and Finding Your Roots – two ends of the spectrum!
Wasteland by Hozier
Tito’s and soda with lime – exciting, I know :)
More is more!
A French antique console table with detailed carving and the most beautiful patina
Retin-A and La Roche Balm in combination
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, Bobbi Brown bronzer and Dior lipstick in Hasard. How can I choose just one!
