Interview with Artist Haley Mathewes

Haley Mathewes is incredibly talented and incredibly sweet. We can think of 100 places her artwork would look great in our homes, and we want to buy it all up! Here, we asked her to share a little more about herself and her journey as an artist.

where is your hometown?

Charleston, South Carolina

what does your household look like?

I am married and live happily with my wonderful husband Thomas and our daughter Gigi.

what year did your company launch?

I have always drawn and painted but it wasn’t until my dear friend Janet Gregg really encouraged me to make it official in 2015.

what originally sparked your idea for the company?

I started selling paintings in my antiques booth as a way of selling antique frames more so than the artwork itself. Janet saw my pieces in the booth and from there, encouraged me to get serious and focus on the artwork itself!

what do you love most about your company?

I absolutely love what I do. It is a joy to create and I feel so grateful that people have my artwork as a part of their lives and homes.

What is a current goal you are striving for?

I am honestly just trying to keep my head above water! I would say the constant goal for me is finding balance in life and work, and yet, continuing to ride the waves of momentum and growth.

How do you keep up your mental health?

Exercise. I have to get outside and walk or run at least four days a week to get fresh air and expend energy. I also like to mix it up with yoga and Pilates. I truly feel that moving your body is one of the most important and rewarding ways to take care of physical and mental health.

Looking back on your entrepreneurial journey, what do you wish you had done differently?

I’m not sure what I would do differently because I feel like I’ve learned so much along the way – mistakes and mishaps included!

if you could give some advice to your 21-year-old self, what would you say?

I would tell myself to relax and enjoy precious youth without carrying the false burden of worrying about what the future may or may not bring.
